![]() ![]() ![]() The second she was introduced, everything about her was apparent. The priest’s character was a very good example of this. In other words, none of the characters are subtle at all. Like almost every single character they come across is either a saint that has the exact same mindset as every other nice person in the game or completely evil. Since they’re travelling around so much, I feel like a lot of the characters are painfully unbelievable and don’t even act like real people. Though I’m still liking this game overall, I thought this episode was kind of disappointing. Karen's not a particularly good person for abandoning her family, but she's hardly remorseless, and she's shown to have compassion for others and goes through great lengths to save a family she knows she let down and hurt. She didn't wholly regret her actions as she has her own reasoning for doing what she did, but wasn't so cold and heartless to dismiss Sean's sadness and anger, and understands that her actions hurt others, even if she hoped to minimize that pain. I appreciated that she didn't make excuses, she knows she screwed up and made peace with it long ago. She very easily could have divorced and remained friendly towards her family, but as she put it, she didn't want to fake it, she wasn't going to be ready to be a mother and never wanted to give the impression she would ever be one to her children. It's a short-sighted, selfish reason that doesn't take into account what that sudden abandonment would do to a family, but it's a very human mistake she regretted. I like that it's such a simple answer, it seems so mundane and trivial but spoke a lot about her character and her perceptions of the world and life.
